Formats, file limits and what happens to your images.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Image processing and ZIP creation happen locally in your browser. Image contents and file names are not sent to the application server. The page still loads the scripts and processing resources it needs.
Which image formats can I use?
LightPic reads and exports static PNG, JPEG, WebP and AVIF images. Animated images are not supported. JPEG does not support transparency; transparent areas become white when exported as JPEG.
Is there a file size or resolution limit?
Each image can be up to 50 MB and 40 million pixels. Large images use more browser memory, so try smaller batches if processing slows down. AVIF encoding can take longer.
Why does a result say “No optimization needed”?
If you only compress an image without changing its format or pixels and the new file is no smaller, LightPic keeps the original only after checking that it contains no sensitive metadata. Otherwise it creates a new file to remove metadata, even if it is larger. Format changes and edits also create a new result.
